Unit 3 Part A: Cytology Terms Flashcards
Cytology
study of cells
Intracellular
inside the cell
Extracellular
outside the cell
Cytoplasm
collective term for all the material inside the cell
Organelles
“little organs” inside the cell, most are surrounded by membrane separating them from the cytosol
Nuclear envelope
name for the membrane surrounding the nucleus
cell reparation
glucose + O2—> CO2 + H2O + ATP (energy)
Mitotic spindle
separates chromosomes during mitosis (cell division)
Nuclear pore
allow for entry and exit of material in the nucleus
Nucleolus
a special region inside the nucleus where ribosomes are made
Centrosome
a region near the nucleus, “microtubule organizing center”
membranous organelles
Organelles that have a membrane surrounding them
Anuclear
cells that have no nucleus (RBC)
Nucleoplasm
watery material inside the cell
cristae of mitochondria
folds of the inner membrane
