Unit 3 List 1 Macromolecules Flashcards
Macromolecule
A large molecule that is often polymer of thousands of covalently bonded of atoms that’s formed y the repetitive linking of smaller chemical units
Organic
A large class of chemical compounds that had one or more atoms of carbon that is covalently linked to atoms of other elements
Monomer
The small molecules that is bond together to form more complex such as polymers
Polymer
Large Molecules that is made of repeating smaller units that’s called monomers
Carbohydrates
The organic compounds thats abundant in nature serving a structural and that’s functional
Lipids
Lipids are fatty , Waxy , Or Oily compounds that’s soluble in organic solvents and that’s insoluble
Fatty Acids
A acid with a long unbranched hydrocarbon chain serving a building for lipids and playing crucial roles
Protein
Naturally occurring to extremely complex substance that’s consists of amino acid
Amino Acids
An organic molecule that’s made up of a basic amino group
Enzymes
The acts of a biological catalyst of accelerating chemical reactions within living organisms
Catalyst
Substance that speeds up a chemical reaction or lower then the temperature or pressure needed to start one without itself being consumed .
Nucleic Acids
nucleic acids are naturally occurring chemical compounds thats served as the main information
Nucleotide
A compound consisting a nucleoside that’s linked to a phosphate group
Steroids
Any large class of organic compounds that has characteristic molecular structure containing four rings of carbon
Hormone
A substance that’s produced in an organism r transported in tissue fluids such as a blood or sap to stimulate specific cell
Dehydration Synthesis
When two compounds are joined from a larger molecule following the removal of water
Hydrolysis
A chemical breakdown of a compound due to a reaction with the water
