The adoption of cultural traits, such as language, by one group under the influence of another.
acculturation
Belief that objects, such as plants and stones, or natural events, like thunderstorms and earthquakes, have a discrete spirit and life.
animism
The dominant culture completely absorbs the less dominant one. Often used to describe immigrant adaptation to new places.
assimilation
Religion founded by Baha’ullah (“Glory of God”) who declared himself as a prophet of God/”the promised one”. Teachings: World peace through unity of all religions, live a simple life, dedication to serving others.
Baha’i
Specific statements that people hold to be true, and they are almost always based on values.

bilingualism
Third major universalizing religion. 365 million followers.Originated in India. Diffused along the silk road.
Buddhism
A philosophy that adheres to the teachings of the Chinese philosopher Confucius. It shows the way to ensure a stable government and an orderly society in the present world and stresses a moral code of conduct.
Confucianism
The distance-controlled spreading of an idea, innovation, or some other item through a local population by contact from person to person.
Contagious diffusion
Any item, made by humans, that represents a material aspect of culture.
Artifacts
A language that results from the mixing of a colonizer’s language with the indigenous language of the people being dominated.
Creole
the belief that the culture in which we are raised determines who we are at emotional and behavioral levels. This supports the theory that environmental influences dominate who we are instead of biologically inherited traits.
Cultural Determinism
is the geographical and social spread of the different aspects of one culture to different ethnicities, religions, nationalities, regions, etc.
Cultural diffusion
is the relationship between culture and the environment, dealing with human adaptations to various environments.
Cultural Ecology
the study of how cultures vary over space.
