*Remember that Daniel Shays was a former Captain in the Continental Army that had become a bankrupt, poor farmer. He and 1200 other farmers started a march to the capitol of Massachusetts, Boston. Along the way they shut down courthouses to stop foreclosures on the farmer’s farms. They were going to attack an arsenal and take weapons, but the Governor heard about it and sent the military. But by the time the military arrived to stop the rebellion, the militia guarding the arsenal had opened fire and killed four of the farmers. Shay’s Rebellion showed many people that a new, stronger national government was needed to prevent things like that from happening.
