Cabinet
Group of advisers to the President
Revenue
The money collected from taxes and other sources. Used to fund the government.
The Tariff of 1789
Tariff that required importers to pay a tax on a percentage of their ship’s cargo. They also had to pay a tax on the tonnage on their ships.
Speculators
Person who risks money in hopes of a financial profit. This was the name given to people who bought the government bonds at a cheap price (sometimes as low as $10) hoping that the government would pay at full price ($100).
Enumerated Powers
Government powers that are specifically outlined in the Constitution.
Implied powers
Powers that aren’t specifically mentioned in the Constitution but claimed by the government.
Bank of the United States
The National Bank that was established to collect taxes, regulate trade and provide for defense.
Creditor
One to whom a debt is owed.
Agrarianism
The philosophy that owning land and agriculture is the backbone of our country.
Radicals
One whose political views, practices, or policies are considered extreme.
Neutral
Not aligned with any political or ideological group, not taking sides.
