The Sender
A
- The person who sends the message.
- The person who initiates the conversation.
- Responsible for encoding

Encoding (mental)
A
- The process of converting one’s thoughts (or feelings and ideas) into a format that will express (communicate) what they mean.
- When you are thinking of the best way to send the message.

The person that receives the message

- Express our ideas, thoughts, and feelings
- Can be verbal or nonverbal

- What you use to send the message

- The receiver’s interpretation of the sender’s message
- Also used when reading, studying or learning a new language

- The receiver’s response or you can think of it as the return message, reaction, or reply
- Can be nonverbal or verbal

- Things or conditions that interfere with or block communication

Stereotype (Communication Barrier)
A
- To label a whole group of people…putting everyone into the same category
- Based on preconceived ideas
- Biases affect communication and can become barriers
