Unit 3 Ch. 13 Terms and Quiz. Flashcards
What is a schedule of reinforcement?
Is a rule that describes a contingency of reinforcement, those environmental arrangements that determine conditions by which behaviors will produce reinforcement.
What is a continuous schedule (CRF)?
Continuous reinforcement (CRF), provides reinforcement for each occurrence of behavior.
What is an intermittent schedule of reinforcement?
(INT) A contingency of reinforcement in which some, but not all, occurrences of the behavior produce reinforcement.
What are four basic schedules of intermittent reinforcement?
FR- ( Fixed Ratio)
VR- ( Variable Ratio)
FT- ( Fixed Ratio)
VI- ( Variable interval).
What is FR?
(fixed ratio): schedule of reinforcement requires the completion of a number of responses to produce a reinforcement. Postreinforcement pause follows reinforcement. (The participant doesn’t respond for a period following reinforcement.)
What is VR?
variable ratio): Schedule of reinforcement requires the completion of a variable number of responses to produce a reinforcer. Typically, does not produce postreinforcement pause. Produces quick rate of responses.
What is FT?
- (fixed ratio): Schedule of reinforcement provides reinforcement for the first response following a fixed duration of time. Typically produced reinforcement pause in responding during the early part of the interval. Initially slow, but accelerating rate of response is evident towards the end of the interval, usually reaching a maximum rate just before the delivery of the reinforcer.
What is VI?
(variable interval): Schedule of reinforcement provides reinforcement for the first correct response following the elapse of variable durations of time. Rate of response is consistent. Typically produces few hesitations between responses.
What does schedule thinning refer to?
refers to changing a contingency of reinforcement by gradually increasing the response ratio or the extent of the time interval; it results in a lower rate of reinforcement per responses, time, or both
What is ratio strain?
a result of abrupt increases in ratio requirements when moving from denser to thinner reinforcement schedules.
Describe DRH
(differential reinforcement of high rates): The reinforcement of responses higher than a predetermined criterion.
Describe DRL
differential reinforcement of high rates): When responses are only reinforced only when they are lower than the criterion.
Describe DRD
(differential reinforcement of diminishing rates): Schedule provides reinforcement at the end of a predetermined time interval when the number of responses is less than a criterion that is gradually decreased across time intervals based on the individual’s performance.
How are compound schedules formed?
Applied behavior analyst combine the elements of continuous reinforcement (CRF), the four intermittent schedules of reinforcement ( FR VR, FI, VI), differential reinforcement of various rates of responding ( DRH, DRL) and the extinction ( EXT).
What is a concurrent schedule? A concurrent schedule occurs when what 3 things happen?
- Two or more contingencies of reinforcement
- Operate independently and simultaneously
- For two or more behaviors.
