What was the Peace of Westphalia?

A

The treaty that ended the Thirty Year’s War. It had the following important consequences:
~Weakened Hapsburg states of Spain and Austria.
~Strengthened France by rewarding it German territory.
~German princes independent of Holy Roman Empire.
~Ended religious wars in Europe.
~Introduced a new system where a meeting is held negotiate terms of war and peace.
