Unit 3 Cell Division - Mitosis: Flashcards
What type of cells are found in humans?
Somatic cells
gametes
What is the cell division for these two cells?
Somatic cells - Mitosis
gametes - Meiosis
How many daughter cells are there in mitosis?
Two daughter cells identical to the mother cell and each other.
What is interphase?
Stage that occurs between two consecutive cell division - is not part of the cell division process
What occurs in interphase?
1) Cell growth
2) Function - specialisation
3)DNA replication before mitosis
What is a chromosome called after DNA replication?
Chromatid.
What attaches to chromatids?
A centromere.
How do you identify interphase on a diagram?
The chromosomes will be visible as chromatin network.
What are the four phases of mitosis?
Prophase
metaphase
anaphase
telophase
What is mitosis?
The division of the chromosomes into two identical sets.
The division of the nucleus .
What are the two important stages of mitosis?
Cytokinesis - Division of the cytoplasm organelles and cell membrane.
karyokinesis-Division of the nucleus and chromosomes.
