Unit 3 Flashcards
What are the 5 states of matter ?
Solid Liquid Gas Plasma Bose Einstein
Definition of Solid
The state of matter in which materials have a definite shape and a definite volume .
Definition of Liquid
The state of matter in which a material has a definite volume but not a definite shape .
Definition of Gas
The state of matter in which a material has neither a definite shape nor a definite volume.
Definition of Plasma
The state of matter in which atoms have been striped of there electrons .
Definition of Bose Einstein
A group of atoms cooled to within a hair of absolute zero. When they reach that temperature the atoms are hardly moving next to each other so they have almost no free energy to do so.
Conditions to have a solid
Particles have to be tightly packed into a space with a low amount of kinetic energy .
Conditions for a liquid
Has to have more kinetic energy particles also have to have enough room to flow around each other but still be very close .
Conditions Plasma
Has to be really hot
Conditions Bose Einstein
Has to be at a extremely low temperature .
Label all transition states of matter .
