Test 2 Flashcards
What is the difference between matter and non - matter ?
Matter takes up volume in a object . Non - Matter takes up no volume in a object .
What is the difference between matter and mass ?
Mass can be measured by weighting of the force . Matter is anything that occupies a space.
What is the difference between mass and weight ?
Mass stays the same no matter your location weight change due to the gravitational pull.
What is the difference between homogeneous and heterogeneous matter ?
Homogeneous matter is matter that has a same composition throughout . Heterogeneous matter matter that has no specific composition.
What is the difference between a element and a compound ?
A element is a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances . A compound can be broken down into two or more simpler substances .
Example of matter
Table , decks , chair , bed , people .
Examples of non- matter
Space , sound, electric signals, light , ideas
What is the difference between solution,a colloid , and a suspension ?
Colloid are intermediate in size and are evenly distributed without settling .Particles in suspensions are lager then in solutions the particles will settle out .Solutions dissolve in the solute.
Examples of elements
Periodic table H2O ,sugar ,carbon , magnesium, sodium ,zinc, sulfur .
Examples of a compound
Table salt , atoms , water all are made of two or more substances.
Examples of solution
Salt +water , Sugar + water they both dissolve in the water .
Examples of a alloy
Bronze , Brass , Gold , Aluminum
Examples of colloid
Toothpaste ,clouds,dust , smoke , butter , milk
Examples of suspension
Salt water , sand in water , muddy water
