What is culture?
The shared beliefs, values, practices, behaviors, and technologies of a society.
What are cultural traits?
Visible and invisible attributes that combine to make up a group’s culture.
Sociofacts
The way in which a society, behaves and organizes institutions, for example, religion, government schooling, etc.
Mentifacts
The ideas, beliefs, and values of a culture, for example, religion beliefs
architecture
Materials from factories and manufactured
land use
Sense of place, how a culture uses the land, urban, etc.

Agreed-upon, cultural practices or standards that guide behavior of a culture

Rapid widespread spread of an idea, innovation or phenomenon through direct contact or interaction amongst people
stimulus diffusion
wear an idea or innovation, spreads from one caliper to another, but is adapted or modified to fit the local or cultural context
acculturation
when people within one culture adapt traits from another culture
assimilation
when one culture abandons their original culture and adopts another culture (could be forced or voluntary)
multiculturalism
the acceptance and tolerance of many different cultures which exist in close proximity to one another
syncretism
when two cultures blend together and create something new
globalization
Globalization is the process by which countries and people around the world become more connected through trade, communication, and cultural exchange.
material culture
Material culture refers to the physical objects, resources, and spaces that people use to define their culture.
diffusion
Diffusion is the process by which ideas, cultural practices, products, or innovations spread from one place or group to another. In simple terms, it’s how something, like a new trend or technology, spreads across different societies
relocation diffusion
Relocation diffusion is the spread of cultural ideas, practices, or innovations when people move from one place to another.
Expansion diffusion
Expansion diffusion is the spread of a cultural idea, trend, or innovation from its original place outward, growing in influence as more people adopt it.
