Symbolic Speech

Protected Speech
right to express oneself and one’s views in spoken words, actions, printed materials, assemblies or gatherings and petitions submitted to the government.
Defamatory speech
the verbal expression of false or malicious statements that damage someone’s reputation (Citizens united v FEC)
Selective incorperation
Selecting certain individuals based on race or religion to create a more diverse environment
Due process clause
ensures that the government treats people fairly and does not deprive them of their life, liberty, or property without a fair and just reason
Equal protection clause
Protect individuals from discrimination and that everyone is to be treated equally
Exclusionary Rule
evidence illegally seized by law enforcement officers in violation of the suspect’s Fourth Amendment CANNOT be used against them
Establishment clause
