3 divisions of the childrens court and description
Family Div -> protection and care of kids and other matters
Criminal Div -> criminal offending b/n ages of 10-17
Koori Div -> criminal activity of aborigines youths
Community supervision programs aim and types
Aim = to divert young people from the criminal youth justice system (custody) Types = probation, youth supervision order, youth attendance order and parole
Probation conditions
Must report to youth justice worker and obey instructions
Report change of address, schools, employment
Must attend school
X consumption of alcohol
Youth Supervision Orders conditions
X reoffending Report to Justice Youth Unit as required Obey Youth Justice Worker X leave state without permission report changes
Youth attendance order
units: dictates number of attendance hours per week; dates and times of attendance; educational prgrams 2 participate.
A child must: not reoffend; complete up to 4hrs of com service a week, report any changes and comply
What is Parole
Allows an offender to serve part of custodial sentence in the community
The youth parole board has discretion to determine parole eligibilty
