Unit 2a - Cells, Organs And Populations Flashcards
What enzyme does the stomach make?
Pepsin
What do salivary glands do?
Produce amylase enzyme in the Saliva
What does the small intestine do?
To complete digestion it produces amylase, lipase and protease enzyme
What does the large intestine do?
Excess water was absorbed
What does amylase convert starch into?
Sugars
What does protease convert proteins into?
Amino acids
What does lipase convert lipids into?
Glycerol and fatty acids
What’s bile?
Bile is alkaline so neutralises the stomach acid for enzymes in the small intestine to work most successfully
What else does bile?
Makes digestion faster by emulsifying fats
What does a plant cell contain that an animal cell doesn’t?
A vacuole, chloroplasts, cell wall
What does a bacterial cell contain that’s different?
DNA, flagellum and plasmid
What is a vacuole filled with?
Cell sap
What is a plasmid?
Small DNA molecule
