Unit 2 Vocab Flashcards
Adaptations
the different traits created during adaption. These adaptations are often the results of mutations causing genetic variations to create traits favorable to certain changes in the environment.
Environmental Change
refers to any alteration in the physical, chemical, or biological components of an organisms surroundings
Variation
refers to the differences observed between individual organisms within a species, which can be cause by genetic factors or environmental influences on gene expressions and can manifest in physical appearance, behavior, or other characteristics.
Physical Traits
are observable characteristics that you can see just by looking at a plant, animal, or human. Behavioral traits can only be seen by observing the actions of a plant, animal, or human.
Behavioral Traits
are characteristics that describe a persons or animals behavior. They can be innate and make up a persons personality profile.
Physiological Traits
are the physical characteristics of an individual or the characteristics of living organisms that are related to their functioning and performance.
Populations
the number of individuals of a species in a given area or space.
Urbanization
is the population shifts from rural to urban areas, the corresponding decrease in the proportion of people living in rural areas.
Natural Selection
is a process of evolution that occurs when organisms with certain traits are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing on their genes to the next generation
Sexual Reproduction
the production of new organisms by the combination of genetic information of two individuals of different sexes.
