What did the “Ba” represent?
A person’s character (personality) while they are alive.
What does the “Ka” represent?
The spirit that goes the the afterlife.
Why were the Ba and the Ka so important to the Egyptian’s beliefs?
Egyptians believed that the Ba and the Ka both returned to the body of a person who died if they body was properly preserved and sustained in the tomb with food, drink and earthly belongings.
What did the Ancient Egyptians believe the afterlife was?
They believed that the afterlife was a “Field of Reeds”.
What was the afterlife like?
People could live forever without sickness or death.
Who was allowed to enter the afterlife?
Only people who were good were allowed to enter the afterlife.
Who weighed the hearts of the dead?
Anubis.
What did Anubis look like?
He had a head of a jackal.
What did Anubis weigh the heart against?
He weighed the dead person’s heart to see if it was heavier than the “Feather of Truth”.
What did it mean if the heart was lighter than the feather?
It meant they were good.
What happened to the heart if it was heavier than the feather?
If the person has done many evil things, their heart was heavier.
What did Amit look like?
He had a head of a crocodile and a body of a hippo and a lion.
What did the dead person have to swear?
They had to swear they had killed nobody or committed no evil.

Why did the Greeks call Ancient Egypt “the Gift of the Nile”?
The Nile provided many things for the Egyptians. Fertile soil after the flood, papyrus, water, mode of transportation.
