Where did Ancient Greece Civilization begin?
On the island of Crete.
Describe the landscape of Greece.
It has much smaller land mass than Mesopotamia and Egypt. About 80% of Greece was mountains and hills.
How was Minoan civilization destroyed?
Around 1700 BCE, an earthquake hit the island of Crete. Around 1800 BCE, a volcano erupted near the island of Crete. Tidal waves followed the eruption.

What is a “polis”?
Polis is a city-state in Ancient Greece.
What happened to Athens during the age of Classical Greece?
Athens grew in power rivaled only by Sparta. Sparta first Greek city-state to keep a standing army of high prof. Soldiers.
How did Sparta develop differently from Athens?
During this time it grew in strength rivaling Athens.
Describe the tension between Athens and Sparta.
Many historians believed that maybe Spartan was jealous of Athens wealth, or afraid of its power. This quarrel started the Peloponnesian war which lasted over 25 years.
What was the main result of the outcome of the Persian war?

Who was involved in the Peloponnesian war?
Athens and Sparta.
How did Sparta win the war?
More than half the people died in Athens which caused Athens to surrender. Sparta chocked off Athens food supply.
What did Sparta do to Athens after they won?
They changed their government. It was the end of the democracy for Athens.
Who was “Alexander the Great”?
Was the son of King Phillip of Macedonia. He became the kind of The Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia after the assassination of his father. He spread Greek Culture.
