unit 2 sac 2 Flashcards
renewable energy definition
renewable energy is any energy that comes from a source that will not be depleted due to use
sustainable development definition
is economic development that is conducted without the depletion of natural resources
difference between food chains and food webs
a food chain follows a single path and is considered a simple system whereas food webs are complexed and shows the connections of many pants and animals
difference between biotic and abiotic factors
abiotic components are non living chemical and physical factors in the environment which effect ecosystems. biotic, however describes all living components for example all organisms such as plants and animals
the four spheres description
everything in earths system can be placed into one of the major four subsystems, land, water, living things or air.
these four subsists are called spheres. specifically, they are the lithosphere (land), hydrosphere (water), biosphere (living things) and atmosphere (air)
words involved in the water cycle
precipitation, condensation, transpiration, evaporation, infiltration
consequences of removing a component of a food web
it depends on the ecosystem but depletion of predators means increase of herbivores and therefore destruction of habitat. whereas depletion of herbivores means depletion of predators due to no food but increase in plants
the closest link to climate change
when the sun emits shortwave radiation it is then re emitted as lonwave radiation and gdehouse gases prevent some of this from leaving which leads to warming of earths surface, however with human activity and greenhouse gases being built up in the atmosphere more nd more is getting trapped which cause an increase in the surface temperature
land managers understanding on the land (vegetation)
native vegetation is any pants, shrubs, trees that grew in Victoria before European settlement. No introduced or introduced from other parts of the country.
it provides many services to land owners such as;
limiting green house gases
minimising derogation
providing a habitat
HOWEVER 60 percent is in threat of extinction
and 66% of it has been cleared
land managers understandings of the land (private land)
39% of Victoria is public land (state forests, parks)
