What were 2 causes of the Indian removal act?
- While Americans were moving westward, they wanted the Native Americans off the land.
- President Jackson wanted Native Americans to relocate to the west of the Mississippi/ the Great Planes.
What were 2 effects of the Indian removal act?
- The Native Americans were forced out and many of them died due to harsh conditions and diseases.
- Certain Native Americans fought to keep their land. One of these tribes was the Seminoles.
How the road to statehood was similar for Florida and Texas?
One reason why they are similar is that they both took a long time to become a state. They both had to wait for a new free state to join before they could.

- We felt a sense of pride and patriotism, we also gained respect from other countries in the world.

Who were the Forty-niners, and why did they travel west?
Forty-niners were people who came seeking gold during the California gold rush. They traveled west because they hoped to mine for gold and make a living, though few made a profit.
Why did inflation occur in boomtowns?
Since there was more money and people than goods, the prices of goods skyrocketed. A single egg could be worth 50 cents, in today’s terms that is 18 dollars.
What is “Manifest Destiny”?
Manifest Destiny is the belief that Americans are destined to move westward. They believed that it was “God’s will” for them to obtain the land, and spread their beliefs and democracy.

- We doubled the size of the USA.
- We could trade up and down the Mississippi which increased trade.
- More fertile farmland was gained for farming.
