A

The North had tons of supplies for the war. The North had most of the nation’s wealth and they also had more people.

The South had good military leaders to lead them into battle and they also had military schools. The South also knew the area they were fighting in and knew all the good spots.

The South did not have nearly as many manufacturing plants as the North did so they could not produce as much. The South also did not nearly have as many people as the North did.

Describe the battle of Appomattox Court House and why it was important to the outcome of the war.

A

Marked the end of the Civil War. April 9th, 1865. casualties: 700, Who?: General Grant and General Lee. Where?: Appomattox Court House, Virginia. Victor?: Union. Before Lee surrendered, Grant pushed confederates back further into Virginia. Lee hoped to get reinforcements from retreating but got surrounded by Union. With little supplies left and soldiers deserting Lee surrendered. Decided to meet at Appomattox Court House to discuss surrender. Applications: Confederacy had to turn in weapons, swear to not fight again, and go home. They could keep mules/horses and North would even give them food. Soon other armies followed and surrendered.

Describe the people of the North

A

The people of the North believed that slavery was wrong and that slaves should be free. Many people also worked in factories all day. There was no more slavery in the North but black and white people were still divided.

Describe the people of the South

A

The people of the South thought slavery was an important part of their economy. The people of the South were based on slavery and the use of slaves to earn their money. Plantations owners normally owned a lot of land, so they needed a lot of slaves to work it. The more land, the more slaves to buy, the more cotton you produced.
