Q

What must I do to be saved? Cotton Mather

A

Other people before him, at least from his perspective, have used their own answer to this question to bring evil and destruction. Knowledge is the first thing necessary for salvation. Ignorance is a sin that will lead to hell. Don’t break the 10 commandments and you will be saved. Everything is against you because you are under the Reign of Sin. You will find salvation in Jesus Christ. No good thing will be withheld from those saved by The Lord, you will be forgiven of your sins, you will become Children of God. Goes on for a while basically repeating what he just said in greater detail in order to purely answer a question that he considers to be perverted by others.

Q

Smallpox Debate: 1721

A

The question was whether or not to vaccinate people for smallpox. The clergymen supported the vaccine because it helped healed the sick and they saw God in that. Physicians were against it because the incision that they had to make to insert the vaccine often became infected, and people just went from being infected with smallpox to dying of fever.
