Unit 2 Part 1 Flashcards
Organic
Anything that contains carbon
Macromolecules
Large molecules formed by a process called polymerization
Polymer
Forms when many smaller molecules (called monomers) bond together
Dehydration synthesis
When monomers are joined together to form a polymer and water is released
Hydrolysis
When a polymer is broken into monomers when water molecules are added
Monosaccharide
Carbohydrate monomer, simple sugars
Disaccharide
Two monosaccharides form 2 sugar carbohydrates
Polysaccharide
Carbohydrate polymer ( forms when sugars join together in a long chain
Lipids
A macromolecule made of carbon and hydrogen and a few oxygen to store fats for energy
Fatty acids
The monomer on a lipid and it’s made out of a carbon - hydrogen chains bonded to one glycerol molecule
Nuclei acid
A macromolecule made of C, H, O, N, P
Nucleotide
Monomer of nuclear acid
Protein
Made of chno and sometimes s
Monomer
What makes up a polymer
Saturated vs. unsaturated fat
Fats that are bonded tightly so that they are more formed and when they are unsaturated they are not bonded tightly so they are not a straight line
