Photosynthesis Flashcards
Solar energy
The ultimate source of energy available to earth. The sun. Provide the earth with the heat and light that are essential to live.
Chemical energy
Energy that is stored in molecular bonds
Metabolism
The sum of all chemical reactions of our body including anabolism and catabolism
Anabolism
The building of large molecules from smaller ones. This requires energy.
Catabolism
The breaking down of molecules. Breaking down the food you eat for energy
Photosynthesis
Process that plants used to generate energy by using sunlight
Thylakoid
Saclike Photosynthetic membranes
Granum
Stack of thylakoids
Stroma
Region outside the thylakoid membrane
Light reaction
Why energy is transferred to ATP and NADPH than water is broken down and oxygen is released
Calvin cycle
The ATP and NADPH made in the light reactions are used to power the Calvin cycle. This takes place in the stroma. In this process six CO2 are used to make a six carbon sugar called glucose
Pigments
Light absorbing chemicals
Chlorophyll
The principal pigment in plants
ATP
Adenosine triphosphate. Consists of three parts Fibers five carbon sugar Adenine Phosphate
Xylem and phloem
Who is inside plants that carry H2O and food
