Unit 2 - Lesson 3 - Pollination Flashcards
What is pollination?
The transfer of mature pollen grains from an anther (male plant structure) to a stigma (female plant structure) of a flower in the same species.
What are the two different types of pollination.
Cross Pollination
Self Pollination
What is Self Pollination
The pollination of a flower by pollen from the same flower or from another flower on the same plant.
What is Cross Pollination
Occur when pollen grains are transferred to the flower from a different flower.
What is Wind Pollination?
Wind-pollinated flowers are different in structure because they do not have to attract insects to them but do need to be exposed to the wind.
What are the two methods of pollination?
Insect and Wind
What is Insect Pollination?
Insect-pollinated flowers are adapted to attract insects to them to enable transfer of pollen
