What does MRS GREN stand for.
M - Movement
R - Respiration
S - Sensitivity
G - Growth
R - Reproduction
E - Excretion
N - Nutrition
What is asexual reproduction?
Involves only one parent.
Offspring are genetically identical to the parent (clones).
No fusion of gametes (sex cells) is required.
What are the examples of asexual reproduction?
Runners (e.g., strawberry plants)
Tubers (e.g., potatoes)
Cuttings (e.g., some houseplants)
What is sexual reproduction?
Requires two parents (or at least male and female reproductive structures).
Offspring have genetic variation due to the mixing of genes.
Involves pollination, fertilization, and seed formation.
What are Rhizomes?
Rhizomes are underground stems that grow horizontally. Examples of plants that reproduce through rhizomes include bamboo, ginger and turmeric.
What are Bulbs?
Bulbs are modified underground storage structures consisting of a short stem with modified leaves. Buds within the bulb can grow into new shoots, and roots emerge from the base. Onions and tulips are examples of plants that reproduce through bulbs.
What are Tubers?
enlarged, fleshy underground stems/ roots that store nutrients. Eyes or buds on the tuber can develop into new shoots and roots, forming new plants.
What are Runners/Stolons?
Some plants produce above-ground stems called runners or stolons that grow horizontally along the soil surface. These stems can develop roots and shoots at the nodes, creating new plants that are genetically identical to the parent
