Q

Analyse why Leadership development is a priority for all sectors of canadian society

A

with globalization, global issues (climate change, war, famine, etc.) and immigration comes a more diverse and complex society. The public and NFP sectors must be representative of this new complex society. Leaders must be more reflective, open to change, develop behaviours which build leadership capacities and develop relationships, and must be intentionally collaborative and consultative to survive in this climate. The private sector has an increasing role in society as leaders of innovation and technology. They also must be aware of the influence and impact they have on society, on the environment, and on economies. This means they too must foster transformational leadership skills and focus on diversification to keep up with society.

Q

Describe the importance of linking behaviour to policy development.

A

Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) works with governments to connect behaviour to policy development. By linking behaviour to policy development, governments and institutions can assess what drive the issues at hand and how to mitigate these and lessen the strain on public services. (e.g. what desired behaviours lead to a healthier lifestyle which in turn lessen the pressure on the health care system). They put into place policies that would nudge people in the direction of the desired outcome.

Q

Transformation and Change

A
  1. Both are necessary for movement. Transformation differs from change in that it deconstructs an existing structure leading to a profound and lasting new structure altogether. Change without transformation can be temporary or permanent shifts of varying degrees within existing structures.
  2. Transformation is necessary to address the complex issues of today.
  3. Despite the need for transformation many governance systems lean into reform to create change rather than a deconstruction and transformation from within.

Innovation

A
  1. Innovation comes more from listening than telling. Look outside self and organization for new procedures, processes, and services. Involves experimenting and taking risks. Enriched by diversity.
  2. Leadership is inexplicably connected with the process of innovation, of bringing new ideas, methods, or solutions into use.
