Unit 2 Lab Flashcards
Integumentary System( Hair, Skin, Nails)
Protects body from external environment, Produces Vit D, retains body temp, and regulates body temp.
Skeletal System(Bones and Joints)
Supports body, protects internal organs, produces blood cells, provides leverage for movement, stores calcium salts
Muscular System( Skeletal muscles)
Produces Movement, Controls body openings, Generates heat
Nervous System (Nerves, Spinal Cord, Brain)
Regulates body functions, provides sensation, movement, automatic functions, and higher nerve functions through nerve impulse.
Endocrine System
Regulates body functions (slow acting), Regulates muscles, glands, and other tissues through the secretion of hormones.
Endocrine System (Organs) (Superior to Inferior)
Pineal Gland, Hypothalamus, Pituitary Gland, Thyroid Gland, Thymus Gland, Adrenal Glands, Pancreas, Testes or Ovaries
Cardiovascular System
Pumps and delivers oxygen poor blood to lungs and rich blood to tissues, removes waste from tissues, transports cells, nutrients and other substances
Cardiovascular System (organs)
Blood Vessels and Heart
Lymphatic System
Returns excess tissue fluid to cardiovascular system and provides immunity
Lymphatic System (Organs) (Inferior to Superior)
Lymphatic Vessels, Spleen, Thymus, Lymph Nodes, Tonsils
Respiratory System
Delivers oxygen to the blood, removes CO2, maintains acid-base balance of the blood
Respiratory System (Organs) (Superior to Inferior)
Nasal Cavity, Pharynx, Larynx, Trachea, Lungs
Digestive System
Digests food, Absorbs nutrients into the blood, Removes food waste, Maintains fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance
Digestive System Organs ( Superior to Inferior)
Mouth, Salivary glands, Esophagus, Liver, Stomach, Gallbladder, Pancreas, Large Intestine, Small Intestine
Urinary System
Removes metabolic wastes from the blood, maintains fluid electrolyte and acid-base balance, Stimulates blood cell production
Urinary System Organs (Inferior to Superior)
Urethra, Urinary bladder, Ureters, Kidneys
Reproductive System (Male)
Produces and transports sperm, secretes hormones, Sexual Function
Reproductive System Organs (Male)
Prostate Gland, Ductus deferens, Testis, Penis
Reproductive System (Female)
Produces and Transports oocytes, site of fetal development, nourishment, childbirth, and lactation. Secretes hormones. Sexual Function
Reproductive System Organs (Female) (Superior to Inferior)
Mammary Glands, Uterine tube, Ovary, Uterus, Vagina
Receptor
Responds to a particular environmental change or stimulus
Control Center
Receives the information supplied by the receptor, processes the information and sends out commands
Effector
produces a response and carries out the commands of the control center
Negative Feedback
a stimulus sends a response that opposes the stimulus.
Positive Feedback
The output enhances the original stimulus. (Less common than negative feedback)
