Unit 2: Kinematics In One Dimension Flashcards
Kinematics
The mathematical description of motion
Uniform Motion
Straight-line motion in which equal displacements occur during any successive equal-time intervals
Speed
How fast an object is moving, independent of direction
Initial Position
The objects starting point in a problem
Final Position
The ending point in the analysis
Instantaneous Velocity
An objects speed and direction at a single instant of time t
Turning Point
A point in the motion where a particle reverses direction
Average Acceleration
The rate of change of velocity
aavg = delta vs/delta t
Free Fall
The motion of an object moving under the influence of gravity only, and no other forces
Free-Fall Acceleration
The length or magnitude of afree fall
g = 9.80 m/s^2 (free-fall acceleration)
Instantaneous Acceleration
The instantaneous acceleration as is the slope of the line that is tangent to the velocity-versus-time graph at time t
ds = dvs/dt = slope of the velocity-versus-time graph at time t
