Who were the Progressives? How did they address the problems at the time?
The progressives were people who believed that urbanization and industrialization was harmful to society and who addressed and improved upon those problems by bringing them to the public’s attention and moving government to pass regulations and make laws.
What were social, political and economic changes accomplished by the progressives?
Social: Upton Sinclair’s “The Jungle”
Political: “The Meat Inspection Act” (Theodore Roosevelt passed after reading the Jungle)
Economic: Sherman Anti-trust Act- broke up trusts and monopolies
