Structured physical activity
planned, organised sport
Incidental physical activity
any activity that builds up in small amounts during the day, such as housework and walking for transport.
Play
to amuse oneself pleasantly in a light-hearted way with a recreation, game or exercise, consists of no formal rules, e.g. building sandcastle
Household chores/gardening
incidental, results in high energy expenditure, e.g. vacuuming, moping, mowing, essential source of pa for older adults, develops strength, flexibility, balance and muscular endurance.
Active transport
: incidental, human-powered transport to get to destinations, e.g. walking to the train station.
Occupational activity
incidental, occupations that are active, e.g. carrying bricks on a building site, tradespeople.

structured/planned, planning and structure, requires physical effort to sustain or improve health or fitness, e.g. going to the gym to workout.
Recreational and leisure
structured/planned, recreational activities are those activities that stimulate the mind and body, whereas leisure activities are meant to be restful, e.g. dance, games, music, sports, freedom to choose enjoyable activity.
Organised sport
structured/ planned, provides active diversion, structured or highly organised, involves skills or set plays, e.g. club sport at local level.
