Consititution
A formal set of rules, principales, and procedures for running a country
constitutional monarchy
A form of government in which the monarch acts as head of state within the guidelines of the constitution
Crown
The monarch, Canada’s head of state
Dissolve
Terminate parliament in the calling of general election
House of Commons
The elected part of the federal government, and the chamber in which Members of Parliament debate and pass laws
Indian
An out dated term for the First Nations peoples
Interest Group
A group that strongly supports a particular cause
Lesgislature (at the federal level)
It consists of the governor general, the senate, and the House of Commons
Lesgislature (at the provincial level)
Consists of the lieutenant-governer and the elected representatives
Lobby
Try to influence the decisions made by lawmakers
Parliament
The governor general, the Senate, and the House of Commons, all of whom must approve laws that apply to Canada
Premier
The leader of the provincial or territorial government
Prime Minister
The leader of the federal government
Prorogue
End a session of Parliament when its work has been completed
Representive Democracy
A government that ia made of elected representatives who vote and pass laws on behalf of an area or group
