What is a Dictatorship?
A form of government where 1 leader holds all power over his or hers state
What kind of support do dictators get?
They usually carry the support of the nation’s military

What is a monarchy?
A monarchy is a form of goverment ruled by a herditary head of state
What is an oligarchy
An oligarchy is a form of governance where few people hold all power
What is an aristocracy?
An aristocracy is form of government in which the privilged class rules
What is a democracy?
An democracy is a form of government in which laws are made by a direct vote of the citizens
What is an indirect democracy?
An indirect democracy is when you elect representives to vote on the behalf of the people. (Canada’s Government)
State 3 differences between absolute monarchy & democracy.
Absolute Monarchy: Monarch has absolute power, Monarch combines political & religious power through divine right & rulers are selected through family line
Democracy: Government is based on the will of the people, seperation of church and state & leaders are selected by popular vote
What is Civics?
the study of the rights and duties of citizenship

- To learn how a government operates
- to understand what the rights of being a citizen are

What is a Citizen?
a person who lives in a city, town or country, and who is legally allowed to rights and freedoms
What is Citizenship?
Membership in political community
What is Civic Action?
legal, non- violent action to protect rights
What is Community?
A collection of people who share forms of identity, like common values
What is Common Good?
the well- being of people in a commmunity or society in terms of justice and fairness
What is Equity?
The condition achived when all people are treated in a way that is fair, just and inclusive
What are Freedoms?
The ability to conduct affairs and excercise their rights without being hampered or frustrated
What are Human Rights?
They are rights that protect the dignity and value of every indivual
What is an Identity?
How you see yourself within the context of various communities you belong to
