the ear
Modified Y-shaped Incision
Exposes not only the torso but also part of the neck
anatomy
Modified Y shaped Incision
It is a straight line incision extending from the chin to
the symphysis pubis.
I-shaped Incision
Mastoid-to-Mastoid incision steps
(A) Coronal Scalp Incision, from mastoid to mastoid
(B) Scalp Reflection, Skull Cap removal
(C) Removal of the Brain
Incision along the axilla and is directed towards the
center of the chest at the level of the sternal plate
Y shaped Incision
For women, the Y-incision is curved around the __________ before meeting at the breast bone.

Used in forensic examination of the neck
Modified Y shaped
Primary Autopsy Incisions (on skin):
- For scalp:
a. Mastoid-to-mastoid incision - For trunk:
a. I shaped
b. Y shaped
c. Modified Y shaped
GOAL OF PERFORMING THE INCISIONS:
- To expose the chambers of the Heart
- To expose the inner lungs
- To expose the inner liver
- To open the urinary bladder cavity
- To expose the GIT lumen
Takes a lot of skill not to reach the brain parenchyma
SAWING OF THE SKULL:
Most common incision, provides the widest exposure
Y-shaped incision
SECONDARY AUTOPSY INCISIONS:
- SAWING OF THE SKULL
- CUTTING OF THE STERNAL PLATE:
Not preferred because the incision on the neck is evident
I shaped Incision
s avoided because of the fibrous ligament beneath it
(difficult to cut)
