What is ‘Hours of work’?

- Employer must not request/require an employee to work more than 38 hours in a week.
- Unless additional hours are reasonable and the special provision of penalty rates is applied.
- Employees have right to decline additional hours.

What is ‘Parental leave’?

A
- Employees are entitled to 12 months unpaid parental leave in relation to the birth or adoption of a child.
- Parental leave provisions include birth-related and adoption-related leave and recognize some sex de factor relationships.

What is ‘Offers and requests to convert from casual to permanent employment’?
National Employment Standards
A
- Employment Standards (NES) provide casual employees with casual conversion.
- This means that casual employees who have worked for their employer for 12 months need to be offered the option to convert to full-time or part-time (permanent) employment by their employer.

What is ‘Flexible working arrangements’?
National Employment Standards
A
- An employee may request a change in their working arrangements from their employer if they require flexibility because they are a parent/care for child of school age or younger.
- Also applies to carers, people who have a disability, those who are 55+, are experiencing domestic violence or are supporting a victim of domestic violence.
- Flexible working arrangements include reduced hours, different start and finish times or home-working arrangements.

- 4 weeks, with part-time employees entitled to a pro rata amount.
- Casual employees are not entitled to annual leave.
