Authority of Scripture
the idea that all the words in Scripture are God’s in such a way that to disbelieve or disobey any word of Scripture is to disbelieve or disobey God

Canonicity
answering the question about how it was decided which books would be in the Bible
Clarity of Scripture
the idea that the Bible is written in such a way that its teachings are able to be understood by all who will read it seeking God’s help and being willing to follow it.

papyrus sheets bound together in leaf form, similar to a book format
General Revelation
Knowledge of God’s existence, character and moral law that comes through creation to all humanity; revelation of God given to all people at all time

the study of interpreting the Bible
Inerrancy
the idea that Scripture in the original manuscripts does not affirm anything that is contrary to fact
Infallibility
the idea that Scripture is not able to lead us astray in any matters of faith and practice
Masoretic Text
the traditional text of the Hebrew Bible carefully copied by generations of Jewish scholars (Masoretes) using a strict set of proofreading guidelines around the 10th to 11th centuries
Necessity of Scripture
the idea that the Bible is necessary for knowing the gospel, for maintaining spiritual life, and for knowing God’s will, but is not necessary for knowing that God exists or for knowing something about God’s character and moral laws
Self-Attesting
the words bear witness to their own divine authorship as Christians read them
Septuagint (LXX)
the Greek translation of the Old Testament composed between 250-150 B.C.
