Rate, Rhythm, Pattern + Sound
- Eupnea
- Regular
- Symmetrical
- Inaudible
What are the ABNORMAL breathing patterns?
Rate, Rhythm, Pattern + Sound
- Tachypnea
- Irregular
- Asymmetrical
- Audible
Dyspnea means….
SOB
What can an Ra do when a client experiences SOB
- Stop or decrease activity
- Whether u need 2obtain assistance
- Assume a position of relaxation.
What positions can you place a client with SOB
- Bed - Lying head up + legs supported.
- Chair - Leaning forward w table + pillow.
- Standing - Lean against a wall.
What are two Controlled breather exercises
- Pursed Lip Breathing
2. Diaphragmatic Breathing
Why would we use Diaphragmatic breathing
To re-learn how to use diaphragm muscle’s to breath.
*Do not do more than 5-6 breathes without a break.
Why would we use Pursed Lip breathing
To increase the time airways are open during exhalation to force air out.
- Expiration last 2-3x longer than inspiration
- Good 4clients w COPD
What meds may the client need to take?
- Bronchodilator
- O2
O2 Path?
- Decreased O2 Levels
- Increased work of heart + lungs 2 compensate
- Heart + lungs become over worked
- Decreased 02 in the bloodstream (HYPOXEMIA)
- Decreased O2 in tissues (HYPOXIA) which occurs within four mins of decreased O2
- = CELL DEATH
Who may require oxygen?
- Clients who may not be able to get enough O2 in the body = B.I. or decreased LOC
- Unable 2extract enough O2 from inside = Emphysema
- Following conditions = Lung + cardiac disease.
What are the O2 precautions?
- Never allow a client to smoke when receiving O2 therapy = Combustion.
- O2 is a drug - amount prescribed by a physician
What is the purpose of Oxygen?
Decreased chance of hypoxemia + hypoxia
What are the 7x of oxygen delivery systems?
- Nasal Prongs
- Simple Mask
- Non-Rebreather Mask
- Venturi Mask
- Aerosol Mask
- Tranche Mask
- Face Tent
What O2 delivery systems are LOW flow?
- Nasal Prongs
- Simple Mask
- Face tent
