unit 2 Flashcards
a break in the skull bone that generally occurs as a result of direct impact. can cause brain injuries
skull fractures
most common kind of fracture
linear skull fracture
fracture that caves into cranial cavity
depressed skull fracture
broken apart into several pieces
comminuted fracture
one of the most severe forms of skull fractures
basilar skull fracture - in base of the skull
often associated with tears in the dura mater and can result in CSF leaking out of the cranial cavity
basilar skull fracture
bone is bent not exactly broken
ping pong skull fracture
involves separation of the zygomatic bone or zygoma from the rest of the face
zygomaticomaxillary complex fracture
blunt force to the eye can cause
orbital blowout fracture
complex bilateral fractures usually associated with unstable fragments of the face
LeFort fractures
Lefort type 1 fracture
runs between the maximally floor and the orbital floor
lefort fracture type II
forms a triangular shape crossing from the maxillary bones through the maxillary sinus and through the orbits and across the bridge of the nose
Lefort fracture type 3
fracture line extends from one side of the face to the other all the way through the orbital cavities and across the bridge of the nose
