Complex (starch and fibre)

What is fibre
A complex carb.
It’s part of the food that cannot be digested. Keeps the digestive system running smoothly and eliminating waste on a regular basis
Function of protein
Body requires protein for growth and tissue formation. Proteins transport oxygen and nutrients to the blood.
What are amino acids
Protein that is broken down into 20 different types of amino acids. 9 are needed that cannot be made in the body
What are complete proteins
Animal based proteins
What is an incomplete protein
Vegetable sources of protein, does not include the 9 essential amino acids
Function of fat
Fat is needed for cushioning vital organs. Helps maintain body temp. Fat deposits is a source of heat and energy for the muscles
Daily requirement for fat
20-30% of your total Daily calories
What are saturated fats
Animal fats (biproducts) that are solid at room temperature like butter
What are poly/unsaturated fats
Seeds and nuts that are liquid at room temperature
What are trans fats
The fake hydrogenated fats
Functions of vitamins
Organic substances that are required in your diet is tiny amount.
They also assist in processing other nutrients
What are water soluble vitamins
B (meat, dairy, starchy veggies)
C (citrus fruits, spinach)
