What is a quarter rest?
Rhythm worth 1 beat of silence
What is 4/4 time signature?
Four beats per measure (top number), quarter note is worth one beat (bottom number)
What is melodic intervals?
Two pitches of an interval played independently
What is harmonic intervals?
Two pitches of an interval are played simultaneously
What are dynamics ?
Symbols that indicate the volume of the music
What is the dynamic piano ?
Dynamic Symbol which indicates a soft volume (p)
What is dynamic mezzo forte?
Dynamic symbol which indicates a moderately loud volume (mf)
What is dynamic forte?
Dynamic symbol which indicates a loud volume (f)
What are the C major primary chords symbols and notes?
C major primary chords: C, G7, F and chord symbols
C chord: CEG “C”
G7 chord: BFG “G7”
F chord: CFA “F”
What is a half rest ?
Rhythm worth 2 beats of silence
What are tied notes?
Two pitches connected by a curved line- these connected pitches are the same pitch/note. Played on the piano by connecting the notes with as little separation as possible
What is 3/4 time signature?
Three beats in a measure (top number)/ Quarter note is worth one beat (bottom number)
What is a dotted half note?
Half note with a dot after it- worth three beats of sound
What is a slur in music?
Two pitches connected by a curved line- these connected pitches are different pitches/notes. Played on the piano by connecting with notes with as little separation as possible.
What is a pick up note?
Note/Notes that occur before the first full measure. The last measure of the piece is shortened by that number of beats in the pick-up measure. Ex- one quarter note pick up, last measure will have one less quarter note.
