Faith
Word comes from the Latin fides, meaning “trust” or “belief”. A strong belief in God.
Pentecost
A Christian festival celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter to remember and honor the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles.
Metanoia
Metanoia is a transformation, conversion, repentance, change of mind and this a change of heart. The word Metanoia is an ancient Greek word that is often translated into English as “repentance”.
Creed
A creed is a summary of the principle articles of faith professed by a church or community of believers. The word “creed” comes from the Latin word credo, which means “I believe”.
Trinity
The three divine persons in one God.
Omnipresent (present everywhere)
Omniscience (all knowing)
Omnipotent (powerful)
Immutable (unchanging)
Holy Spirit
The third person of the Blessed Trinity who Jesus sent to he;p his Church; understood as the spiritual force of God.
Incarnation
The embodiment of God the Son in human flesh as Jesus Christ. Means that God became human and dwelt personally in the flesh among us in Jesus of Nazareth.
Contracts
Deal with things, Engages the services of people, made for a stipulated period of time, can be broken with material loss to the contracting parties.
Are secular (non-religious) affairs and belong to the marketplace.
Are best understood by lawyers.
Are witnessed by people with the state who carries out the action.
Covenants
Deal with people, engage people, are forever, cannot be broken, but if violated, they result in loss and broken hearts.
Are sacred affairs and belong to the heart, the temple, or the church
Are appreciated by people who study God.
Are witnessed by God, who carries out the action.
In the Apostles creed we profess that the church is 4 things; list the 4 things.
The Church is “one” (unity).
The Church is holy.
The Church is Catholic.
The Church is Apostolic.
List the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Knowledge (to know ourselves and the world around us)
Understanding (of God’s word to help us live good lives)
Wisdom (to see and understand God’s plan for our lives)
Courage (to stand up for what we believe)
Reverence (helps us to see God everywhere in the world around us)
Wonder (to be in awe of God’s power and beauty)
Right Judgement (to think through and make good choices)
List the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Love (unselfish devotion to God and others)
Joy (finding true happiness following Christ)
Peace (being free of small worries because we are connected to God)
Patience (overcoming temptations and suffering because God is with us)
Kindness (Treating others as we wish to be treated)
Goodness (honouring God and avoiding sin)
Generosity (sharing our gifts and possessions with others)
Gentleness (acting calmly and not provoking others to anger)
Faithfulness (living out our commitment to Jesus and his Church)
