What’s an important thing that most encyclopedias get wrong?
They say that the Greeks were the first civilization to develop a real sense of history.
When did the Greeks first have a sense of history?
The sixth century BC.
Who wrote the Pentateuch?
Moses.
What are the five books of the Pentateuch?
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
What was the Greek sense of history, and what was wrong with their view?
Their sense of history was cyclical, and the issue was that their view was incomplete; many of their statements were true, but their view was limited.
What two things are most important to have a proper view of history?
The right starting point and a total picture of the course of human events; the catch is that both are impossible to attain without God.
What does vantage point determine?
View.
What two things does History have to Christians?
Immediate purpose and eternal significance.
What was human’s beginning and what will be the end?
In the heart of God and with the Father in Heaven.
What is the only way the total picture of humankind can be seen?
Through God’s eyes and His Word (the Bible.)
