- Leading power of the NATO military alliance
- An alliance in which a lot of the worlds countries come together in order to defend eachother
- Many influential countries including UK, Canada and Germany
- Contributes a large amount of troops, resources and finances

The US is the worlds leading economic power
It has tremendous wealth in comparison to other countries
It has many of the world’s countries using its currency

- The American Constitution guarantees Americans certain basic rights
- Some of these rights are enshrined in a part of the Constitution named the Bill of Rights
- People are guaranteed freedom of speech

- Vital to keep the US economy going
- Willing to do low paid jobs - better than what they had anyway
- Texas and California have a lot of immigrants working on farming

- Young and Active
- Most come into the US to live the American Dream
- They are willing to work hard in order to live a better life
- Immigrants contribute $30 billlion a year to the country’s economy
Name an argument against immigration.
- Unskilled and uneducated
- Many have a low level of education and are, therefore, only able to do basic low paid jobs.
- They end up taking more out of the system than they pay in tax.
- For example, it’s estimated that around £30 billion is spent on education, health and welfare for illegal immigrants.

- DACA
- Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals which is an American immigration policy founded by the Obama administration in June 2012.
- allows certain undocumented immigrants - who entered the country as children - to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit.
- In April 2023, President Biden announced a plan to expand health coverage for DACA recipients

- Trumps Wall
- President Trump (2017-20) set out to build a “impenetrable, physical, tall” wall between the US and Mexico
- Mr Trump said his wall would cover 1,000 miles and natural obstacles will take care of the rest.
- This wall wasn’t completed before Trump lost the 2020 presidential election

- The United States Border Patrol is the mobile, uniformed law enforcement arm of the US Customs and Border Protection within the department of Homeland security.
- This department is responsible for securing US borders.
- In 2022, US Border Control reported 2.76 million encounters with migrants at the US-Mexico border

- The house of representatives and the senate
- Main duty is to make laws in which are passed to the President for approval
- In 2015, ESSA was introduced in the senate by Lamar Alexander

- It is made up of 9 justices which are appointed for life by a president
- In recent years it has ruled in important issues such as health care immigration and same sex marriage

- Americans have a right to express their opinions including criticising the government

- Americans come together to support what they believe in
- They have responsibility to protest peacefully without using violence

- A group of likeminded individuals who comparing about a certain issue
- They try to influence government decision making
- Members of interest groups may take part in protests or organise campaigns to publicise their issue

- There isn’t a balance between their percentage of the population and percentage in US congress
- There is a sexism in of woman involved with politics in the USA
- The 118th Congress only had 29% of its congress members as woman

- Lack of ethnic minorities involved in congress compared to there percentage of population
- There isn’t much diversity in congress and is dominated by older white men
- Hispanics make up 17% of the US population yet only 10% of congress

- Health
- Americans have a private health care system meaning that those with money have the opportunity to be healthier than poor Americans
- Unlike the UK, they don’t have a NHS that is free to use
- In 2022, 9.9% of the population had no health insurance

- Education
- Within US schools, the quality of education pupils receive from public schools can be extremely different from one school to another
- Traditionally, minority groups live in poorer areas, with less funding for schools.
- Language can be a barrier meaning parents who don’t speak english will struggle to communicate to the school about their child’s learning and homework

- Poverty and income
- Despite being the richest county, it has a major problem with poverty.
- Millions of Americans work hard at jobs that do not sustain them and their families financially.
- Shockingly, the US has a poverty rate of almost 11.6% (37.9 million people)

- Medicaid
- for people on low income including children, pregnant women and disabled people
- Family of 4 with a yearly income of 35000 dollars yearly would be eligible
- CHIP
- For children who don’t qualify for medicaid but whose family isn’t wealthy
- 4 person family making less than 103000 dollars yearly

- ESSA
- Makes sure public schools give quality education for every child
- Helps out poverty, ethnic minorities, special education services and language barriers
- A child with a language barrier would be aided by ESSA as it would provide support

- SNAP
- Provides a 125 dollar a month debit card (money for each member) in can only be spent on food
- The debit card only works in pre approved stores
- It reaches over 44 million Americans a year
