Socioeconomic Class
the social standing or class of an individual or group. It is often measured as a combination of education income, and occupation.
Anecdote
A short and interesting story often told for the purpose of demonstrating some point and/or to make the audience laugh.
Flashback
An interruption of the chronological sequence of an event of earlier occurrence.
Direct Characterization
The author literally tells the audience what a character is like. This may be done via the narrator, another character or by the character him or herself.
Indirect Characterization
The audience must infer for themselves what the character is like.
Round Character
A character that is well-developed. ( we know more than 2 things about them)
Flat Character
A character who displays a limited number of character traits.
Dynamic Character
A character that exhibits significant development or change over the course of a text.
Static Character
A character that does not undergo change throughout the text; however, this does not mean they’re flat or one dimensional.
Nuclear family
a couple and their children living in one household.
Extended Family
The nuclear family and grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews.
Portrait
A literary genre that offers an extensive and all- encompassing representation of its subject.
Theme
A central idea or message.
Motif
A recurring image, idea, or symbol.
