Natural resources
a natural resource is somehting that is found in nature and can be used by people. EX: trees, animal fur
migration
to move from one country, place, or locality to another
glyphs
symbolic figures or a characters (as in the Mayan system of writing) usually cut in or carved in stone
Adaptation
adjustment to environmental conditions. Ex. Wearing warmer clothes in the Arctic
Civilization
a relatively high level of cultural and technological development
Social hierarchy
breaking a group of people into groups based on their jobs or how much social power they have. EX: Cheif, nobles, commoners, slaves
Western Hemisphere
the half of the earth made of North and South America and surrounding waters
Indigenous
people who are the original, earliest known inhabitants of a region
Map Key
a box usually found at the bottom of the map that is filled with lots of information as to what the different lines and symbols on the map mean
Compass Rose
A symbol on the map that shows the caridnal directions (north, east, south, west)
Government
something that makes the law of the land and ensures that all the people in that nation or community are treated fairly by those laws
Social Hierarchy
the classification of a group of people according to ability or economic and social standing
