Culture
How we grow up in a community that shares beliefs, speech, and a common rules for how people should behave.
Diversity
All of the different aspects of people that make us all different. For example age, culture
Ethnicity
The belonging of a social group that has a similar national or cultural tradition
Premium
The periodic payment people make to health insurance companies for health care, or for prescription drug coverage.
Co-payment
A set amount a subscriber pays for each medical service; determined by the insurance company
Deductible
The amount a subscriber must pay before the insurance begins to pay
HMO
Health Maintenance requires members to pay a co-payment or a co-pay for medical services
Preferred Provider Organizations
Physician groups and hospitals working together to provide health care at a reduced price for various large companies and corporations
Medicaid
People can receive health insurance from the state and federal government
Medicare
Health insurance provided to people over 65. Pay a monthly payment to social security office
Tricare
Health care provided to active and retired duty service members and their families.
Workers compensation
Employees who are injured or die on the job are covered by state workers compensation laws
Medical law
The law that deals with the application of medical knowledge to legal terms
Medical Ethics
The moral conduct and principles that govern members of the medical profession
Scope of Practice
The range of responsibility that determines the boundaries in which a physician practices
Battery
Illegally using force on another person
Invasion of privacy
The violation of another persons right to be left alone and free of unwarranted publicity and intrusion
Negligence
The commission of an act that prudent people would not have done; results in injury or harm
Malpractice
Improper or negligent treatment of a patient that may result in injury, damage or loss
Informed consent
The consent of a patient to a surgical or medical procedure as well as the patients understanding of the risks and medical tasks/facts involved

A group of people who are equally working together in order to achieve a goal or task
