Unit 1 Test Flashcards
Science
Accumulating knowledge about the world around us
Chemistry
The study of properties and interactions of atoms and molecules
Scientific method
Used as a logical thought process to help ensure valid research that leads to a conclusion; Used to support or disclaim a hypothesis; Validify is assured by using only one variable at a time and a control for comparison.
Technology
Also called applied research uses scientific information to improve people’s lives
Theory
- A work in process still being finely tuned
- An explanation or interpretation of experimental results
- Not a fact - has not been proven
Law
- Facts in science which are always true
- Often a mathematical expression
- Deals with some consistent behavior in the natural world
Observation
uses one or more of the 5 senses to describe what is present
Qualitative observation
Describes without numbers
Quantiative observation
Describes with numbers.
Interpretation
Explains the observation by answering “why?”
