3 forces of personality

Self concept:
The picture of perception of ourselves
Traits of a person with higher positive self-concept
I contact, posture, participate, confident speaking, how they treat people, feel good about themselves.

No I contact, slouch, not involved, don’t converse, put others down, don’t feel good about themselves.

Define values
Values are anything in life that is important to us. Ideas and qualities that we feel strongly about.
Who influences ages 1 - 7
Parents
Who influences ages 8-13’s values
Teachers, heroes, media, and sports
Who influences ages 14- 20 values
Peers
adolescence is a time where there is often a questioning of parental values
Age 21+
90% of values are set unless something significant or drastic happens.

Purpose of setting goals
The purpose of setting goals is to keep you moving forward, you need to plan.
Our goals are daily behavior should be based upon our values.
Goals are the basis of our decision-making
Define two types of goals
Short-term goal-less than a year
long-term goal-more than a year
What is a SMART goal
S-specific, State what needs to be done
M-measurable, includes how the goal can be measured
A-attainable, determine steps to reach the goal
R-realistic,
T-timely State when the goal will be met
What are the five refusal skills steps
1-ask questions 2-name the trouble 3-named consequences 4-suggest and then alternative 5-move it so it leaves the door open
