Bible
This word refers to the collection of Jewish and Christian
scriptures that are considered inspired and thus normative for belief.
Positive Assistance Theory
The theory that the writer (scribe) and Holy spirit worked together as a team to create scripture (writing in the bible)
Inerrancy
to be without error - the words of God
Faith
a specific act or human response to revelation, or a god given theological virtue or habit or belief.
Magisterium
The official teaching authority of the Church, constituted by the pope.
Contextualism
Biblical contextualism emphasize the context in which an action occurs and argues that in some important respect, the action can only be understood relative to that context.
Apostolic Tradition
This term refers to the fact that the Revelation
given by Jesus Christ to his Apostles has been transmitted in two forms: Oral and Written
Hermeneutics
This refers to the interpretation of scripture based on the research done from Exegesis.
Salvation History
This term refers to an interpretation of the Bible as a
historical record of divine salvation, including our own salvation.
Christian Scriptures
– In the Bible, Christian Scriptures ARE LOCATED IN
THE NEW TESTAMENT and they include the following 4 parts:
THE GOSPELS
THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES
THE LETTERS
THE BOOK OF REVELATION
Hebrew Scriptures
SCRIPTURES - In the Bible, Christian Scriptures ARE LOCATED IN
THE OLD TESTAMENT and they include the following 3 parts:
THE LAW (TORAH)
THE PROPHETS
WRITINGS
Synoptic Gospels
the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are referred to as the synoptic Gospels because they include many of the same stories from different perspectives.
Primary Sources
original documents and objects that were created at the time under study
Secondary Sources
anything that wasn’t made during the time period or has first hand experience that covers the topic.
Exegesis
This refers to the various questions of research that Catholic Scholars use in oder to deepen their understanding of a piece of scriputre.
