Unit 1 (Online World) - Email Flashcards
SMTP
This stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It is SMTP that controls the passing of the email from the user’s computer to that outgoing email server. It is also SMTP that controls the passing of the email between servers, from the outgoing email server to the recipient’s email server.
POP3
This stands for Post Office Protocol. POP3 allows an email client to download an email from an email server. When you use POP3 to access your emails they are stored locally on the user’s computer and are removed from the server.
IMAP
This stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. IMAP will sync your email client with the email server so when you connect to the email server a copy of the email is downloaded to your client but is not deleted from the server itself
